About Alex Dib-Bennett
Alex began his artistic inclination around age 13 at Bootham School where he found his artistic style was similar to that of the Cobra movement’s artists (in style) from this his early work kept this energy, spontaneity, and naïve approach in energetic and uplifting mark making.
As these works developed in scale and confidence his work branched out into abstracted life drawings. These life drawings are created with a personal abstract approach similar of that of the Cobra style work, focusing on the boldness of charcoal on paper or the vivid expression and rawness of his creative approach in how he creates his artwork. Rather than traditional beauty Alex as an artist channels the innate spark of creation he is equipped with and creates works that are unique, refreshing and alive with colour and expression, be it from the energy and charisma of the marks or the vibrant expressive colours.
Once graduated from Bootham School Alex enjoyed a year doing a one year art foundation course at Harrogate college where his work further developed with the climax of his creative year being the burnt dragon piece. Shown and well received at the end of year exhibition and showing an ability in keeping his self-expression and bold style of marks and artistic sense across different mediums.
From this year at Harrogate and deciding completely that he would follow his artistic passion Alex began his three year course at Scarborough School of Art where he further developed his abstract style through generative art and other approaches graduating with a 2:1.
Alex’s main interests as an artist are currently abstract maps using acrylic paint on canvas and generative art. The choice of acrylic paint stems from it’s vivid expressive colours and ease of being worked over and applied with spontaneous ease of movement/for mark making.
Another focus of Alex’s artwork are his experiments regarding his abstract style life drawings. These are done with an air of spontaneity and joy of vivid expression that is characteristic of his artwork.
